VILLAGE postmistress Judith Wood and Brian Hopkinson, who cut the grass and tidied the village of Hurst green, winners of the best small village in Lancashire Best Kept Village competition in 1992.

The duo are standing in front of the war memorial that also won. in the best kept memorial section. Memorial flowers adorn the centre, to mark the site as prestigious and also help the town win the award for looking so beautifully well kept.

The competition goes on to this day, although Hurst Green Village did not place in 2018, and instead the village of Eccles became the winner. There is now a memorial hall at the village.

Hurst Green in the Ribble Valley continues to be a picturesque quiet village, where visitors can enjoy peaceful walks.
