A DISQUALIFIED driver who claimed he was caught behind the wheel while picking up medication for his sick daughter has been told he cannot use that excuse again.

David Alan Gregson, 28, was pulled over by a police officer in Westway, Burnley, as it appeared his Vauxhall Corsa had a problem with one of its wheels, the town’s crown court was told.

Prosecutor Emma Kehoe said a further check revealed the registration plates did not tally with the car in question.

Gregson, of Lyndhurst Road, Burnley, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, having no insurance and fraudulently using a registration mark.

He was given a six-month prison term, suspended for 18 months, placed on a two-month curfew and banned from driving for six months.

Mrs Kehoe said when he was detained he told a police officer he had been driving because there were health issues with his daughter.

The court heard he used the same explanation, on a previous occasion, when he was found to be driving while banned.

Marianne Alton, defending, said her client was the sole carer for his daughter and she faced going into care if he was jailed.

Passing sentence, Judge Sara Dodd, told Gregson: “You should have thought about her when you bought these false plates and put them on that car.”
