BRITAIN'S biggest union Unite yesterday launched a North-West advertising campaign to boost turnout and stop the far right in Thursday's Euro elections.

It will see giant billboards placed in 44 locations across Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Liverpool, in addition to Facebook and full-page newspaper adverts .

The union fears that a low turnout could allow candidates such as far right activist Tommy Robinson to be elected to the European Parliament.

Two billboards, one facing in each direction, will be placed on Bolton Road in Blackburn near Ewood Park while another ill be on Bury New Road out of Manchester.

Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said: “The only winners of a low turnout in this week’s European elections will be those that seek to divide our communities. Don’t wonder ‘if only I had voted’ when the results are in. "
