A MAN who gave a roadside breathalyser reading four times the legal limit later refused to provide a blood sample.
Blackburn magistrates heard when Khayaan Hussain was taken to the police station the intoxiliser machine was not working and he declined to have a needle inserted in his arm.
Hussain, 30, of Bentley Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen for analysis. He was remanded on bail until May 14 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report and made subject to an interim disqualification.
Alex Mann, prosecuting, said Hussain co-operated with the roadside procedure where he gave a reading of 140 in breath against the legal limit of 35.
"When he was taken to the police station the breath tester was not working and he refused to give a blood sample," said Mrs Mann.
Zubair Afzal, defending, said his client did not want a sample taken with a needle.
"He fully accepts that constitutes a refusal," said Mr Afzal.
