A NEW call for extra safety measures on a road branded a town's 'most dangerous' has been made after a motor-cyclist suffered leg injuries in an accident.

The rider suffered a displaced knee fracture after his bike was in a collision with a BMW car at the junction of Blackburn Road, Oswaldtwistle, and Thwaites Road on Tuesday morning.

He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital.

Now Oswaldtwistle's county councillor Peter Britcliffe, who has been calling for safety improvements on Blackburn Road since January 2017, has renewed his demand for urgent action.

He has written to Lancashire County Council highways boss Cllr Keith Iddon expressing disappointment at the delay in progress on the issue.

Cllr Britcliffe tells him: "There has been yet another accident on Blackburn Road, Oswaldtwistle.

"As you know I have previously described this road as the most dangerous in Oswaldtwistle.

"I have been promised a safety consultation followed by safety measures during the summer.

"The consultation was scheduled for January.

"Unfortunately it has not yet happened and I am now pleading with you to expedite the survey and safety measures. This matter is very urgent."

Cllr Iddon was unavailable for immediate comment.
