ORGANISERS of a town's 10k road race say they want to make this year's event 'bigger and better than ever before.'

More than 500 people took part in the Accrington Road Runners 10k race last year, with Blackburn Harrier, Ben Fish winning the men's race, and Rossendale Harriers', Anne-Marie Hindle winning the women's race.

And with entries for the this year's 10k and family race now open, the event is expected to attract more runners than ever, with proceeds going to the East Lancashire Hospice and the Lancashire and Lakes Blood Bikes.

Entry costs £14.50 for affiliated club members or £16.50 for non-members.

The 10k race will be recorded by chip timings and all participants will receive a goody bag and be entered into a free raffle.

There will be prizes for the first three men and women to cross the finish line, the first veteran man and woman, and the first male and female team.

Junior races will also be held on the day, and all youth runners will receive a medal with prizes for the first girl and boy in each age category. Junior entry will cost £2.

Starting and finishing at Altham Industrial Estate, runners can expect the last 1.5 miles of the 10k to be a 'fast descent'.

The 2019 event will take place on Sunday October 27 from 10am. For more information visit bookitzone.com/accringtonrr
