A NEWLY refurbished club that was hoping to revitalise a town's nightlife was broken into, just hours after it re-opened to the public.

Voodoo Lounge in Accrington had a relaunch party on Friday night and saw clubbers party at the Willow Street venue until the small hours of the morning.

However, shortly after closing, bosses say the club was broken into and a considerable amount of damage done as well as numerous pieces of equipment stolen, leaving them unable to open on Saturday and Sunday night as originally planned.

A spokesperson for Voodoo Lounge said: "Unfortunately after we shut on Friday we were broken into and a considerable amount of damage and equipment was removed.

"This included money, audio and visual equipment, stock, fixtures and fittings, general necessaries, and a CCTV box.

"We rallied around all day, cleaning up and trying to find replacements for the missing equipment, and repair the damage and clean up the mess.

"Unfortunately we didn't manage to do so, so we weren't able to open on Saturday or on Sunday."

The spokesperson said that the club, which closed in December amid rumours the venue was going to be turned into apartments, was busy from the moment they opened the doors.

They said: "We were busy from the get go, the busiest it's been in a long time ,and you could tell that the Voodoo’ers had clearly missed Voodoo

"We were expecting a full house Saturday and Sunday too.

"We want to apologise to everyone but also want to reassure the people of Accrington that we will be back this Friday."
