TWO engraved baptismal bowls have dedicated to a former priest at two Rossendale churches at special service.

Father Terry Murnane was vicar of St James’ Church Haslingden and St Thomas’ Musbury in Helmshore.

The father of four died in April last year following stroke the previous September.

Congregations of the two churches gathered at the weekend's anniversary to remember him.

Two bowls, created by Lancashire glass engraver and designer Alexis Valentine, were dedicated at special services at each of the churches by the Bishop of Burnley Rt Rev. Philip North.

Afterwards there was a joint parish lunch at St Thomas’ parish hall attended by Father Terry’s family and Mr Valentine

Rt Rev. Philip North said: “At the time of his death, I said that Father Terry had achieved more in a year than many would manage in a decade.

“It is a testament to the huge impact he had in a relatively short time that the congregation has chosen to remember him in this way.”

Current parish priest Father David Stephenson said: “The baptismal bowls make a lasting, and beautiful, memorial to Father Terry. I'm really looking forward to using them for baptisms in our churches.”
