BENEATH Preston Old Road, Blackburn, at Feniscliffe Bridge flows the River Darwen, meeting up inside Witton Park with the Blakewater on its way to the River Ribble.
This view of the spot, from the Lancashire Telegraph's archives, is looking downstream towards the bridge, and dates from about 1914.
Now factory buildings flank the stream here. However, the rural character of the spot in this picture was flawed even then - by the heavy industrial pollution of the river.
