THE FIRST of the May Bank Holiday weekends is upon us and there's plenty of events taking place in East Lancashire, promising fun for all the family.

1. To get you in the spirit, Blackburn Beer Festival will be returning to Blackburn Rugby Club for another year.

The event will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and promises punters a wide selection of beers and ciders as well as live music and food.

Tickets are £5 per day, and include a free pint glass, pen, and programme.

The festival opens at 4pm on Friday and 12pm Saturday and Sunday.

2. If beer and ale don't take your fancy, then head to the Ribble Valley Jazz festival in Clitheroe for a stellar line-up of jazz, blues, and soul musicians from across the UK.

Festival director Geoff Jackson said: "We’ve got all styles of jazz: blues, R&B, soul, experimental, plus poetry and dance.”

As the festival gears up to celebrate its tenth year, more than 70 ticketed and free gigs will take place at indoor and outdoor stages, across venues in Clitheroe and other Ribble Valley towns and villages.

The festival started on Thursday and runs for five consecutive days, culminating in a performance from the Northern Jazz Orchestra at The Grand Theatre, Clitheroe, on Monday.

Tickets are available from the Grand box office on 01200 421599, or from rvjazzfestival.co.uk.

3. For family friendly fun, then it's Amazing Accrington's Live Music Festival that should top your weekend wish list.

Happening on Saturday in Accrington's new town square, the event will get revellers Dancing in the Moonlight as chart-topping noughties band, Toploader, are set to headline.

Murray Dawson, Amazing Accrington chairman, said: "We are keen to do what we can to get tills ringing for shopkeepers in the town and increase footfall on the bank holiday weekend."

The event is free and will run from from 11am until 4pm.

4. Finally, for those living in Burnley, a brand new music festival has been organised, to entice the crowds into the town centre.

The first ever Burnley Live will take place from 12pm until 8pm on Sunday.

Food and drink will be available from stalls around the town and best of all, entry is free.
