DETAILED plans have been unveiled for 14 new homes to be built at a former garden centre.

Outline permission was granted for the development at Beechwood Garden Centre in Roman Road, Blackburn in 2017.

Now applicants Silvercic Development Ltd has lodged a detailed application for the site to Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Agent Nicholas White, of Glovers Project Services, said: " The buildings that currently occupy the site consist of plant nursery buildings, retail areas and storage buildings, along with three residential units.

"The buildings serving the garden centre are mainly concentrated at the southern section of the site.

"A small number of single storey structures occupy the northern section of the site.

"The remainder of the site consists of hard standing, planting beds and grassed areas.

"The whole of the site is to be re‐developed with the exception of the residential units which are to remain.

"As the site is currently classified as brownfield, within the inner urban area of Blackburn it is considered well suited for redevelopment to meet housing needs.

"The site is not protected and does not contain any valuable or outstanding townscape features which will be lost through the development.

"The garden centre site is positioned between two other housing developments within an urban area and therefore the site itself is suited to residential development.

"No issues have been raised by the transport assessment and where mitigation has been suggested by the other appointed consultants these have been incorporated into the design."
