A MAN climbed up a drainpipe and tried to get into his girlfriend's home through an open bathroom window following a drunken night out.

Blackburn magistrates heard Gareth Wilde's late-night exploits had cost him his home and his relationship.

Wilde, 28, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to damaging a window belonging to Zara Hussain. He was ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and £20 victim surcharge and made subject to a restraining order for 12 months.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Miss Hussain was at her Nelson home in bed when she was woken by a loud noise coming from outside. She looked out to see Wilde, who was her sister's partner, trying to climb through the bathroom window after climbing the drainpipe.

"She told him to leave or she would call the police and as he did he smashed a window," said Miss Allan.

Richard Prew, defending, said before he went out his partner and her sister had told him not to come back because the doors would be locked.

"He went out, got very drunk, and they did exactly what they said they would do," said Mr Prew.

"The incident has cost him his relationship and his home because they were allowing him to live with them."
