THE air ambulance has attended more incidents in Lancashire than any other county in the region.

North West Air Ambulance (NWAA) has recently released new figures revealing details of how many ‘missions’, they attended in the last year.

Between April 2018 and March 2019, NWAA attended 2,570 incidents, treating 1,339 patients.

Out of those 2,570, 895 were in Lancashire, with accidental injury accounting for 319 of the callouts, assaults for 34, medical reasons accounting for 176, and crashes 247.

This is compared to 624 incidents in Greater Manchester.

The number is almost double the amount they attended in Cheshire, which was 491, and almost four times more than in Merseyside, which was 275.

The majority of injuries treated were head and thorax, accounting for 24.7 percent and 19.5 percent respectively, of total injuries.

The majority of incidents attended by the service, which is voluntarily funded, occurred between 11am and 3pm, with NWAA attending more than 300 incidents around 2pm.
