SELF-styled 'Cake Diva' Rosie Dummer has travelled to the Middle East to help villagers in a war-torn region.

The 51-year-old, best known for appearing on Channel 4’s show Extreme Cake Making, has built tents for the Yazidis, delivered food packages, donated sanitary products and baked cakes.

She went on the aid mission to help villagers who have suffered at the hands Isis – after a chance meeting with a charity boss.

Rosie said: “The idea is not just to support people with food and shelter but also to give them hope.”

Isis has targeted communities in northern Iraq since 2014. It is estimated that more than 6,000 Yazidi women and girls – some as young as 10 – have been kidnapped and sold as slaves in the last five years.

Rosie was inspired to visit the region after speaking with Ravi Singh, chief executive of humanitarian relief charity Khalsa Aid.

They met at the opening of a furniture store, where the Cake Diva had baked a cake for the charity.

She said: “I was asked by Ravi to come and see what work they do. Khalsa Aid is a Sikh charity but I loved that Ravi talks about the whole human race as one and it doesn’t matter that we are from different religions.”

Together they flew to north Iraq for a week-long trip and have been travelling to different refugee camps and projects.

She added: “It was all quite overwhelming. They are living in empty buildings and being moved repeatedly.”

Rosie has also recently appeared at the world’s largest baking event – the Cake International Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

She has set up a Just Giving page raise money for Khalsa Aid and has already raised £800.

The money will be used to provide food, drink and clothing.
