A WRITER with Down's Syndrome has published his first novella and giving all proceeds to charity.

Craig Hartley, from Brierfield, has published A Change of Views, which looks at the Greek gods moving from Mount Olympus to Pendle Hill.

The move is brought on by the gods and goddesses being forgotten about and feel the need for change.

Mr Hartley, 44, who also writes poetry and novels, performs, decided to donate the proceedings of his story to dance charity DanceSyndrome.

DanceSyndrome, based in Accrington, provides dance workshops and dance leadership training to those who have the genetic disorder.

Mr Hartley's aim with the book was to demonstrate disability does not have to be a barrier to pursuing your dreams and ambitions.

Mr Hartley said: "From an early age I have always enjoyed reading novels and writing poetry.

"I derived inspiration from the works of Homer for this novel.

"I wish to thank the team at DanceSyndrome for collectively helping to make this publication possible."

The charity was set up to its founder, Jen Blackwell, who also has Down Syndrome, struggled to find opportunities to dance.

The book is available by searching A Change of Views on Amazon and can be bought for £7 as a paperback copy and £3.50 on Kindle.

DanceSyndrome is a multi-award winning dance charity, based in Lancashire, that delivers inclusive dance workshops and dance leadership training as well as inspiring performances that demonstrate a focus on ability rather than disability.

The charity was founded by dancer Jen Blackwell, who happens to have Down's syndrome, because she found it difficult to find opportunities in community dance due to her disability. DanceSyndrome's ethos is that disability should never be a barrier to following your dreams.

Dancers with and without disabilities work together to inspire people to see what can be achieved when we all become more inclusive.

Speaking about the release of the book, Craig said "From an early age I have always enjoyed reading novels and writing poetry. I derived inspiration from the works of Homer for this novel. I wish to thank the team at DanceSyndrome for collectively helping to make this publication possible."
