A WOMAN suffered several broken bones when she was hit by a car while walking on the M65.

The woman, in her 30s, was walking on the exit sliproad at junction 12, Nelson, on the westbound carriageway at around 10.30pm on Monday before she was hit by the Vauxhall Corsa.

Paramedics were called and she was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

Police are looking for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward, especially motorists who stopped to help at the scene but left before officers arrived.

Sergeant Michael Higginson said: "We are working hard to piece together exactly what happened and would like to hear from anybody with information about the incident, or who witnessed all or part of the collision.

"We would also very much like to make contact with the motorists who stopped at the scene but left before we could get their details.

"If you have any information that could help with our enquiries we would ask you to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

Her injuries are described as serious but not life threatening.

Anybody with information is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting log number 1628 of April 15.
