ANTI-nuclear campaigners in East Lancashire will be dressing as radioactive waste barrels to reinforce their campaigning this week.
CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) members are promoting a public meeting in Burnley on Wednesday with their day-glo protest.
Rebecca Johnson, of CND and ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Arms) will be bringing along the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded to the latter, for the gathering at the Central Methodist Church Hall.
A CND East Lancs spokesman said: “The barrels highlight the huge problem of radioactive waste.
“More than 4.5 million cubic metres of highly-dangerous radioactive waste is currently being managed.
“About 80 per cent of this is stored and managed in Sellafield and Drigg in Cumbria. Constant cooling is essential to keep it safe.”
Miss Johnson will be joined on the platform by local speakers Andy Fewings and Peter Billington, from 7pm.
An information stand will be installed for the Britain Can Say No To Nukes night. Donations towards their costs will be welcome.
