The husband of a woman who urged Asian cancer patients to speak openly about their diagnoses, has completed a 234 mile bike ride to raise funds for a cancer charity.

Imran Mulla and his work colleague, Shamim Goni, took on the gruelling challenge over five days, cycling from the BT call centre in Accrington (where they both work), to the BT Tower in London.

And so far they have managed to raise more than £1000 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

Mr Mulla's wife, Fatimah, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer, in 2017.

The 30-year-old underwent a nine-month treatment programme which included regular chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions before being given the all clear in September.

Mr Mulla, 39, said: "The Rosemere Cancer Foundation was pivotal in Fatimah's recovery so Shamim and I decided we wanted to do something to raise money for the charity.

"Seeing as we both work for BT we thought about the BT Tower, and at first we thought about abseiling down the side of it but instead we decided to cycle from Accrington to London."

Along the way, the two friends documented their journey in hilarious vlogs, which they posted on YouTube channel Mulla/sham Bike ride.

The vlogs see the men battling with fatigue, overcoming the first world problem of running out of mobile phone battery, getting lost, and enjoying the Great British countryside.

He said: "We really had to inspire each other to carry on, the first day was the hardest as the weather was really bad but when we got past day three it was a race to the finish line."

Mr Mulla, from Audley Range, who raised more than £4000 for Stand up to Cancer in November when he took part in a sponsored head shave, added: "Rosemere has been important for so many people living with cancer – my wife was one of them and the facilities and the care they showed during our period of chemo and radiotherapy was outstanding.

"In our lifetime the majority of us will have someone close to us be diagnosed with cancer in some form and may need the cutting edge technology that Rosemere offer to help them get through this horrible disease.

"Fatimah benefitted from the facilities that many people would have contributed towards and this was my turn to do the same and get money raised for someone else to benefit."
