A 10-YEAR-OLD girl has lost her three-and-a-half-year battle with a rare cancer.

Tributes poured in for Tia Taggart who died in the early hours of yesterday morning surrounded by her family.

The St John The Baptist RC Primary School, Padiham, pupil had a rare form of cancer, Ewing sarcoma.

Tia’s dad Lee Taggart wrote on Facebook: “Tia gained her angel wings at 4.15am (yesterday) being cuddled by us.

“Rest in peace my beautiful little angel.”

A Facebook page set up by teachers at her school, called Jet Set Angels, said: “Dear friends and followers, it is with great sadness that I am writing to let you know that our beautiful Tia passed away peacefully this morning.

“RIP angel. Please keep the family in your prayers.”

Tia had undergone multiple sessions of radiotherapy since she was diagnosed.

She received more than 3,000 birthday cards from across the world when she turned 10 last month after an appeal put out on Facebook.

Laura Herdman, crew manager at Padiham fire station, supported Tia and her family with the birthday card appeal.

She said: “We are absolutely devastated to hear the sad news.

“When a child loses a life it is always a massive shock.

“I feel honoured to have known Tia.

“The family are still welcome to come to the station any time they need. The support does not stop here.”

Hundreds of tributes have been made on social media.

Margaret Hardman said: “RIP, Tia. Your Jet Set Angels are winging their way all over the world, you were an inspiration to many, so pleased that you got your wish to have your 10th birthday surrounded by cards.

“Sending love and hugs to your family.”

Lorraine Asbery said: “RIP you beautiful little angel, you fought a very hard battle.

“No words will ever be enough for your loss and the void that you have left.

“Take comfort in the memories you have of Tia and the precious moments you shared. Fly high young lady and soar with the angels.

“Life is far too cruel at times.”

Beverley Evans said: “RIP beautiful girl you captured the hearts of many with your beautiful face and smile to make your heart melt.

“We will all treasure our little angels we got for you.

“Sleep tight princess thinking of all your family friends.”
