MORE than 60 old age pensioners 'gate-crashed' Blackburn's Cavendish Club and joined another 200 old folk for a special birthday week party.

This photograph, taken in June 24, 1969, shows Cavendish employees Frankie Michael, of Brinscall (left) and Barbara Morris, of Lower Darwen and manager Mr Syd Stewart have a celebration drink.

The party was to mark the first full year in the town of the club, and in conjunction with Liberal councillors, Frank Beetham and Tom Heap. A total of 200 people were invited for a night out.

But 60 other old people mistook the night and turned up at the club.

Mr Stewart said: "We couldn't possibly turn them away.

"Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and a lot of the old people really mixed in with the regular customers."
