WINDOWS of a shelter and CCTV camera have been damaged at an Oswaldtwistle park.

Memebers of Rhyddings Bowling Club are outraged about vandalism at the park which has just had a £2million revamp.

Mick Cox, member of the club, said: “We have two shelters on the bowling green and the majority of the windows are put through.

“There are some metal benches and the young people have been swinging on the back and one of the benches is cracked.

“The top is more or less falling off.

“They are also playing football on our bowling green too.

“The other concern is that we have found plenty of drug packets there.

“The park is used by kids and we are worried about them picking up some of these and if they have drugs in them then I don’t want to think about the consequences.”

Cllr Sara Britcliffe, who represents the St Andrew’s ward, said: “I have been contacted by some residents about the park.

“When I went to look, the windows were smashed and then I found out that the CCTV cameras had been disconnected and were taken down and it seems like there is lots of damage around the park.

“The council have recognised there is an issue and they are looking to put up a CCTV column so people cannot get to it.

“The members of the bowling club are putting their own time and money to make a great facility.

“But there are a select few people who are doing the damage and don’t seem to care about the community.”

Miles Parkinson, council leader for Hyndburn Council, said: “It is just mindless vandalism.

“The community have got some grants to get the greens and parks in a good condition.

“I am sure that the ward councillors will be getting in touch with the PCSOs or police to report the anti-social behaviour.

“Families should be able to enjoy the park and not be disheartened to attend.”
