THIS picture from the Lancashire Telegraph's archives shows the Narrowgates Cottages in Barley at around the turn of the 20th century.
Work for the residents of this row, standing in the shadow of Pendle Hill's big end, came from nearby Narrowgates Mill which picturesque Pendle Water helped to run.
It survived the 1881 deluge which washed away Barley's other mill, but closed in 1967 after being owned and run for more than 50 years by the Metcalfe family.
Seven cottages in Narrowgates were renovated by Pendle Council in 1976 and let to tenants who enjoyed bathrooms, indoor toilets and central heating - luxuries that the villagers here might only have dreamed about.
Perhaps you have a tale to tell about the cottages. If so we’d love to hear from you.
