THE Grand Theatre in Jubilee Street, Blackburn, entertained thousands of people before its closure in 1956.
It was a victim of the emerging TV age and was demolished two years later.
The first theatre on the site was a wooden building which burned down after a Salvation Army meeting was held there, with no link between the two.
It was replaced by the amphitheatre which opened in 1880 and later became the Princes Theatre.
It was rebuilt in 1906 as the New Princes theatre before being called The Grand Theatre in 1928.
Stars such as George Formby and Ted Ray graced its stage.
Throughout its life it struggled against competition from the larger palace and royal theatres as well as cinemas. The site is now occupied by a telephone exchange.
