A FAULT in a recently-laid road surface means that a new roundabout on the A59 near Clitheroe will be closed for two more weekend.

The new layout at the junction of Pendle Road and Clitheroe Road was completed last in February after repeated weekend highway closures.

Now a fault has been found with the new surfacing requiring further weekend closures of the A59 to rectify the problem.

These are planned from Friday April 5 to Monday April 8 and from Friday April 26 to Monday April 29/

While work continues a temporary 30mph speed limit will remain in on the approaches to the roundabout.

Rina Housbey, Lancashire County Council roads design engineer, said: "We're very sorry for the inconvenience, however we cannot accept the roundabout with a fault."

She added: "The problem will be rectified at no cost to the county council before we take responsibility for its ongoing maintenance.
