A MUM-OF-ONE has spoken of her horror after her pet dog was the victim of a 'surreal' attack in a park last week.

Restaurant manager Danielle Harker says she had the most horrific experience after her 20-month-old Cavapoo was attacked by another dog at Burnley's Towneley Park at around 10.10am last Friday.

The attack came as the 30-year-old, from Padiham, was walking her dog from the car park while her seven-month-old daughter, Shae, was strapped to her body in a baby carrier.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Mrs Harker was walking her dog with one of her friends, a 30-year-old woman from Hapton, who is 23 weeks pregnant.

During the walk Mrs Harker said her pet, Caramac, was attacked medium sized chocolate-brown dog, believed to be a Spaniel.

She said: "It was surreal and crazy. I have never seen a dog attack before. The dog lunged at Caramac and dragged her round like a rag doll."

Mrs Harker's friend tried to separate the two dogs after the Spaniel had latched onto Caramac's head while Mrs Harker shouted at the dog owner to put a stop to the attack.

She said: "He just stood there and did not come over or say anything. I kept shouting and shouting at him."

She said the owner, described as being in his 50s and wearing a bright red coat, eventually intervened and grabbed his pet by the collar and took him away. Mrs Harker added: "He did not put it back on the lead. He got a hold of his dog's collar, just started at me and then quickly walked the dog away."

Several dog walkers in the park heard the commotion as Caramac cried and yelped during the attack, Mrs Harker said. She added: "Caramac is trained not to react because I don't want her to be aggressive. She did not try to get out out of it. She was shocked and crying all day."

Lancashire Telegraph:

Caramac did not suffer any serious injuries in the attack but Mrs Harker said the Cavapoo stayed up all night crying at home and has become very 'clingy' since the attack.

Police have been notified about the incident but Mrs Harker said they would not be able to intervene.

She said: "I spoke to the police and they can't record it as a crime because it's a dog on dog attack. I think it's just ridiculous."
