EACH weekend on the Lancashire Telegraph website we’ll be shouting about the best places to go in East Lancashire.

Whether it’s the cosiest country pubs, the swankiest wine bars, prize winning pizza parlours or the tastiest restaurants, we’ll be talking up the hottest venues in a county renowned for its food and drink.

We’ll be asking readers for their top tips on where to go – and throwing in some of our own suggestions too.

This week we’re giving you the lowdown on the best curry houses – and we had a tough time whittling down the favourites.

And readers were full of ideas for the best place to go for a cracking korma or a brilliant bhuna ... let us know what you think.

Lancashire Telegraph:

1. Thira, Blackburn

Thira is a cute little place on Darwen Street serving good value lunches and knockout evening meals. It’s not one of those sprawling curry houses – so you know you are going to get the personal touch. It is rated as the top restaurant in Blackburn on TripAdvisor.

One diner wrote: “Have been looking forward to trying the restaurant voted Blackburn’s best and it didn’t disappoint. The restaurant is small but cosy with a family run feel. The menu is clearly very authentic and the food cooked to order. “

Lancashire Telegraph:

2. Kebabish Original, Blackburn

Not strictly an Indian or a curry house, we had to mention Kebabish Original because so many people put it forward as the place to go in Blackburn. Expect a review in The Buzz in the coming weeks as we can’t wait to send our mystery diner there to try it out.

Lancashire Telegraph:

3. Roomali, Blackburn

This great curry house was hailed by our commenters online and on Facebook. Hussain Mulla, who also recommended Haweli and Kebabish, wrote: “Roomali tops it for me. They make a great curry, reasonable price, tickles your spice and makes you want more.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

4. East Z East, Blackburn

East Z East opened in Blackburn last year in the former Blakey’s cafe at King George’s Hall. The glitz and glam make this a luxury experience in every sense of the word. Even the toilets have gold plated taps. And there is a private VIP dining room if you want to go the extra mile for your special occasion.

Lancashire Telegraph:

5. Shimla, Burnley

Hailed as one of the best curry houses in Burnley on TripAdvisor, this popular restaurant is worthy of inclusion on our list.

The original Shimla opened in Bradford – which is renowned for its Indian restaurants – and this venture is the third in the micro chain.

They promise five star service and an unforgettable atmosphere.
