THREE men allegedly found with chain mail vests and weapons have been released on bail, police have confirmed.

A man and a woman found at a house containing a suspected cannabis farm have also been bailed.

Officers were called to Westfield Road, Nelson, at 4.55pm on Wednesday after they were told a group of men were seen wearing masks and carrying crowbars.

Officers found three men, a 31-year-old from Nelson and 28-year-old and a 32-year-old from Burnley, in a Vauxhall Zafira.

In the car are said to have been machetes, knives, a police baton, a long blade, gloves and crowbars.

All three were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit violent disorder and possession of weapons.

A police spokesman said during the incident a Volvo car was spotted on the road where knives and meat cleaves were found.

As a result of the arrests police were led to a house in Smith Street, Nelson, where the suspected cannabis farm was discovered.

The spokesman said two upstairs rooms were said to be being used to cultivate cannabis plants.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit violent disorder and possession of weapons and a 36-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and abstracting electricity.

All five have been bailed pending further enquiries until April 23.
