A MAN suffered a black eye in an assault at a railway station.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the assault happened at Ramsgreave and Wilpshire Railway Station shortly before 5.45pm on March 23 (Saturday).

An investigation into the assault is now underway.

Officers want to trace three men they believe to be involved in the incident who had left the station by the time police arrived.

The men are aged between 16 and 18 years old, with two described as white and another mixed race with glasses. All three men were wearing tracksuits.

A BTP spokesman said: “British Transport Police were called to Ramsgreave and Wilpshire train station shortly before 5.45pm on March 23 following reports that a man had been assaulted at the station.

“Officers attended, however three men believed to be involved in the incident had left the station.

“An investigation is now underway and officers are urging anyone who was at the station around the time of the incident and saw anything to please get in touch by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 517 of March 23."
