A CHARITY hosting IT sessions with people dealing with mental health conditions is appealing for old or broken equipment in response to the popularity of the classes.
The FixIT charity, stationed in Victoria Hall, operates small classes for people suffering with mental health issues. Volunteers teach students how to repair and refurbish computers, laptops and tablets as a form of therapy for those in need, but with an ever-increasing waiting list, FixIT leaders are asking for help from the public.
Natalie Hastings, a FixIT organiser, says that the team is now desperate for equipment to run the classes.
She said: “We’re getting a waiting list growing, we’ve got around ten people at the moment waiting and that’s without advertising.
“We’re asking for any computers, towers, laptops and tablets. We teach software, operating systems, how to take PCs apart and virus removal.
“We had none until about a month ago, we’re desperate.”
FixIT runs two-and-a half-hour classes for two people at a time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The organisers have now added further sessions on a Monday to cope with demand.
Ms Hastings added: “Hopefully by opening on a Monday we’ll get people rolling through.”
FixIT also offers a repair service run by the volunteers for any devices in need of a helping hand. The cost is a flat fee of £35 plus any parts which need to be ordered.
Those wanting to take part in the classes can self-refer at the BAND office in Bolton town centre’s YMCA.
