YOUNGSTERS took part in a series of poetry workshops in preparation for Blackburn's Reading Festival this summer.

Children from St Michael with St John CE Primary School in Blackburn visited the town's museum to learn about the environment through the medium of poetry.

Children's author and poet Christina Gabbitas, along with Helen Thompson from the Ribble River's Trust looked into how plastic pollution can damage the environment and have a negative impact on the region's rivers.

Ms Gabbitas said: "These workshops are a great way for children to have fun and learn about something very important at the same time."

The event coincided with World Poetry Day.

The reading festival will take place between June 18 and June 22.
