BRIDES were bowled over when Gok Wan stepped in to help style their big day at an East Lancashire boutique.

And staff at Ava Rose Hamilton, in Primet Bridge, Colne, won the hearts of the style guru during filming for Say Yes to the Dress Lancashire.

Originally Gok had planned to stay at Manchester’s Malmaison, while shooting the red rose series of the cult couture show for the TLC channel.

But after a few days working closely with Paula Chappell and her team at the family-run store, he relocated to the Alma Inn, at Laneshaw Bridge, for the duration.

Tomorrow the fruits of their labours, creating the perfect package for two brides-to-be per show, will premiered by the Discovery network broadcaster.

Paula, who runs the operation with daughters Ava Chappell and Niamh Worden, said: “It was a really great experience - there were long days and we were working so closely with Gok and the producers.

“It was a tight fit getting 20 extra people into the place for the filming but we all got on well.”

Once the cameras were switched off though, the stylist soon learned to unwind, in true Lancashire fashion, with Paula and her staff.

When the filming had been completed, Gok described the experience as “incredible” on his Instagram.

He told BT TV: “I got emotional quite a few times. Moments I didn’t expect, when people are telling their story, or you’re hearing or watching their reaction, and probably less so at the reveal moment if they say ‘yes’ to the dress.

“Working with the team up there was incredible. I loved working with the guys at Ava, all the stylists and the sales assistants, and Paula. That was really stand out for me because they’ve become very good friends, and we spent a lot of time together, getting to know each other. It was a lot of fun.”

Paula, whose sons Conor Chappell and Louis Worden both work in menswear at the shop, is now keeping her fingers crossed to see whether TLC will return to Colne for a second series.

Say Yes to the Dress Lancashire is on TLC at 9pm on Friday.
