IT’S not quite Lord’s cricket ground but this blast from the past shows cricket being enjoyed in a slightly different way.
The picture from the Lancashire Telegraph’s archives shows schoolboy cricket being played on waste land in front of the Queen’s Arms Hotel, standing on the corner of Bacup Road, Rawtenstall (right).
The iconic hotel, dating back to around 1830, closed in April last year along with its Qube nightclub.
It is Grade II-listed and in a key location in the town.
This 1895 view also features a steam train, puffing smoke from its chimney as it travels on the line to Crawshawbooth.
