CONCERNS have been raised about a pub opposite Turf Moor which critics say has become an eyesore.

Park View on Higgin Street closed more than 15 months ago yet their were high hopes for its future as six month ago.

Star Pubs and Clubs revealed plans for a makeover to re-name it as the ‘Kilby Tavern’ after the Clarets' vice-chairman.

However, the Lancashire Telegraph’s pub expert Mark Briggs is now concerned about the lack of action on the site.

He said: “It is just like a metal shuttered-up eyesore and the rubbish all around the place indicate no-one is interested in it.

“It has been empty for 15 months and you hear all sorts of rumours over what is happening.

“I think they have failed to find a tenant, who is willing to agree with the terms of the lease.

“They rely on matchdays as their main source of income but you cannot do that as that is 18 days out of 365.

“Our social needs have changed as you need to get people to enjoy food and get them to stay for longer.”

Clarets fan Dave Burnley says it was a shame to see the Park View still closed.

He said: “It needs to be sorted out as it is a blight on the landscape and surely someone with the right ideas will be able to turn it into a goldmine.

“They should be able to make enough money with the home fans going to it.

“With them talking about it being the Kilby Tavern it would be great.

“Apart from a few pubs there are not that many in the town centre that show off Burnley’s past.”

A spokesperson for Star Pubs and Bars said: “We remain keen to reopen The Park Tavern as quickly as possible, but need to identify a suitable operator to lease and work with us to create an outstanding pub.

“The Park View is in a fantastic location next to the stadium and would be great business venture for anyone interested in running a vibrant family friendly community local.

“Since announcing plans for an exciting £350,000 refurbishment there has been some interest, but as yet no one has taken it to the next level." Anyone interested in leasing The Park Tavern should visit www.starpubs.co.uk or call the 08085 949596.
