A MAN has been rescued after a man got trapped in flood water on a road.

The van had tried to drive through a ford at the bottom of Lower Foulridge reservoir on Reedymore Lane.

But the engine cut out due to the deepness of the water and the man in his late 30s was left stuck in his van.

Two fire engines from Colne and Nelson were called out at around 1.35pm today and water rescue teams managed to rescue him.

The man contacted his employer to arrange for the van to be towed out of the ford.

A fire service spokesman said: "The van tried to negotiate its way through a ford at the bottom of Lower Foulridge reservoir.

"But because of the amount of rain we've had, it was deeper than anticipated.

"The water was probably waist deep and he wasn't able to drive out."

"So the engine cut out and the man in his late 30s was stuck in his van.

"So we put on our dry suits and managed to carry the man to safety.

The spokesman added: "The man then got in contact with his employer to arrange for the van to be towed out."
