STRONG winds and rain from overnight are continuing to affect motorists across East Lancashire this morning.

Ribble Valley Police posted on their Facebook page about some flooding on the A59.

They imposed a road closure from Sawley and the A59 and at the junction of Bolton-by-Bowland.

A spokesman said: "We have had to close the A59 at the Abattoir.

"We appreciate this may add some distance to your journey, but it is better than being stranded in the puddle and having wet socks.

"Council are on the way to assist with road closures, signs and diversions. We will keep you up to date for the grand re-opening."

Meanwhile, police are also at the scene of a tree falling down in the road on the A671 at the Devil's Elbow on Whalley Road at Read.

Insp Michael Johnson of Burnley Police said: "The call came in at about 7.10am this morning.

"Officers are there and are implementing road closures awaiting the council arriving at the area."

Meanwhile there are also reports of a fallen tree partially blocking the northbound side of Belmont Road, just outside Belmont towards Abbey Village.
