CANOEING on rivers, attending camps and picking up a host of badges...those are just some of the things these young girls in Hyndburn will have done during their spells with the Girl Guides and Rainbows.

We took a trip down memory lane with photographs from our archives of Brownies in the 1980s and 1990s.

They show a range of activities including presentations for swimming events, Thinking Day services, fundraising events and cheques being given to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and firemen donating two smoke alarms to the 4th Rishton (St Charles) brownie pack for their grand auction for the Blue Peter Wishing Well Appeal in 1988.

Another photograph shows action from the Guides International Camp in 1991 at Waddow Hall in Clitheroe.

Then the Guides from 3rd Great Harwood troupe getting together for the Guides Thinking Day Service at St Wulstan’s Church in Great Harwood.

Another interesting thing about the pictures are the huge number of badges that are on display by these proud Rainbows, Brownies and Girl Guides.

Check out the website for more pictures of Girl Guides throughout the years.
