KIND-HEARTED regulars at a Brierfield pub dug-deep to raise £300 in order to buy a new TV for children and adults with disabilities.

The cash, which was raised by punters from the Lane Ends Inn between November 1979 and January 1980, was generated through raffles and donations.

Former Blackburn Rovers and England football star, Ronnie Clayton, presented the colour TV to representatives of the Gateway Club, who help to look after the disabled adults and children.

The picture from our archives, shows Ronnie with Len Birtwistle of the Gateway Club, Eric Lea, and landlord and landlady of the Lane Ends Inn, Bob and Joan Hesketh.

Mrs Hesketh said: "It was an excellent effort by everyone at the pub to raise this amount of money in just 11 weeks."
