BROKEN bottles, smashed crates and cans of pop scattered over a wide area of the Edenfield by-pass brought traffic to a halt after a coach and wagon collided with each other.
This picture, taken on March 4, 1982, shows the aftermath of the crash. The force of the impact threw crates and tins of pop off the fully-loaded Ben Shaw's delivery wagon.
The wagon went across the central reservation and the northbound carriageway to collide with a crash barrier.
Emergency services dashed to the scene but found it difficult to find a way through because of the debris and a big build-up in traffic.
