A player who was sent off for a racist remark during an amateur football match has received a fine and banned for a total of six matches.

The game between Euro Garages and Clayton Park Rangers was taking place at Pleasington Playing Fields in Blackburn in January.

During the second half of the game, a Clayton Park Rangers player is believed to have said "Shut up, you f****** curry muncher" to an Asian player.

The referee heard the remark and sent the player off. The Euro Garages player then asked to be subbed off the pitch immediately after the incident and no longer wanted to continue playing.

A Lancashire Football Association spokesperson said, "We can confirm that following an investigation, charges were issued in relation to this allegation, a participant from Clayton Park Rangers FC was charged, which was accepted. The case went before a discipline panel on 25 February 2019 as a correspondence hearing.

"The discipline panel accepted the guilty plea by the participant, and issued the following sanction for the offence, a six match suspension and a £75 fine in addition to the administration fees, the participant must also complete an FA education course within four months, six penalty points were also levied against Clayton Park Rangers FC ."

A Euro Garages FC spokesman said, "As a club, we were devastated, shocked and disturbed to the spine on hearing one of our players had fallen victim to a racial remake made during a Saturday afternoon football game.

"Fair play to the referee, who instantly, without any hesitation sent off the player.

"No one’s comes to a Saturday afternoon football game expecting to receive any sort of abuse let alone a racist remark. Our player was so visibly disturbed during the racist attack that he immediately asked to be subbed off the pitch.

"We are glad the LFA have now taken the necessary steps and actions to bring the player to justice. We now hope that this will serve as a benchmark and as a reminder to all players and clubs, that racism will not be tolerated at any level".
