May I assure your letter writers who have expressed their exasperation at the police response to the traveller invasion of Thwaites Brewery and the resulting court convictions that all my retired colleagues share their sentiments and while difficult to compare generations, agree it would not have happened in our day.
Out of more than 100 offenders involved, only two adults and one juvenile have been finally convicted following an investigation by a team of officers formed retrospectively after the public outcry into this disgraceful incident.
Apparently a third defendant has been given the opportunity to have it away on his toes.
Supt Andrea Barrow has proclaimed this is a positive result and justice has been served.
What absolute nonsense.
It is an absolute tragedy that Thwaites should end its brewing on this site in this manner.
