A DECISION is yet to be taken whether Euro Garages' new multi-million headquarters will be granted permission despite construction work continuing.

A revised planning application was submitted by developers last year after it became apparent the building was being erected with four floors, rather than the three which had originally been given planning permission by Blackburn with Darwen Council in summer 2017.

Last year, Gavin Prescott, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s planning manager, said the developers had been warned they were carrying on at their own risk by continuing to build.

And he added council officers were monitoring the site.

Building work is still going ahead on the landmark complex overlooking Fishmoor Reservoir, off Haslingden Road, Guide.

A Blackburn with Darwen Council spokesman said: "We are still considering the planning application – the chair of the committee will decide whether it will be delegated or committee decision."

But no timetable was given as to when a decision was likely to be taken.

Agents acting on behalf of Euro Garages, which is currently based just a stone's throw away, say their new interpretation is not materially different to the scheme previously given consent.

A spokesman for the Campbell Driver Partnership, their consultants, told planners: "To attain the level accommodation required on site, the preferred parking levels and the proposal for a four-storey building is considered a necessity.

"With this in mind the impact of its presence next to the reservoir and neighbouring properties were then considered. The finished floor level allows progression of required floor-to-floor heights which culminates in a roof, height that relates to that of the existing DW Sports building. This is somewhat aided by the change in level between sites."

Once completed, the new HQ would house 250 full-time and 40 part-time staff.
