DARWEN Vale High School has given a selection of tinned food and dry goods to the town's Food Larder.

The items were collected over several months by pupils.

They amounted to five car loads of goods.

The school will now start raising funds for the Derian House children's hospice in Chorley.

Headteacher Matthew Little said: "Darwen Vale has always been keen to raise money for local charities.

"Wayne Hartley (head of maths) has led the charge this term with his fund raising efforts for the local food larder.

"We have a close relationship with Cllr Roy Davies, Mayor of Darwen, who urged us to support the it and he was thrilled to see such an impressive haul.

"This term sees the focus shift to fund raising activities for Derian House."

Cllr Davies said: "It was a wonderful and generous effort by the school, its staff and pupils."
