DO YOU REMEMBER the Tipps family?
The group of anthropomorphic chimpanzees had been used by tea brand PG Tips for advertising campaigns since the 1950s.
These advertisements were stopped in the 1970s, after complaints by animal rights organisations.
However, sales dropped, and the chimps were brought back 18 months later.
The last 'Tipps family' advert was broadcast in January 2002. The PG Tips chimps spawned a spin-off in memorabilia, including trading cards and figurines.
This advert published in the Lancashire Telegraph on Tuesday, February 13, 1979, is a competition to win Brooke Bond tea bags, the previous name used on the packaging of PG Tips before it was dropped.
