AN investigation has concluded that is was 'necessary and proportionate' for police to use a Taser during an incident in the Borders last year.
The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) looked at cases in Jedburgh, Aberdeen and Carluke.
And the independent report found the use of Tasers had been justified in all three instances.
The device was deployed by Specially Trained Officers (STOs) in Jedburgh in June when a 21-year-old man was reported to be in possession of a loaded crossbow.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Williams, operational and specialist support said: “We welcome the findings of these reports. Our number one priority is the protection of the public and it is really positive that the PIRC has recognised that in all of these incredibly challenging incidents our officers acted professionally.”
The training of around 500 STOs began at the end of May 2018 with the first officers being operational in their local communities from June 1, 2018.
STOs are equipped with Taser X2 and are deployed throughout Scotland.
