A cemetery in Leicester has become the first to have an outdoor shrine dedicated to a Hindu deity.
The marble statue of Shiva has been placed in the grounds of Great Glen Crematorium.
The statue was donated by care home owner Sailesh Raja.
Mr Raja said installing the statue was a "great achievement for the Hindus of Leicester".
For the first time, worshippers can now perform an outdoor Shiva Abhishake, in which offerings are made to the god.
Set in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside on 30 acres of landscaped grounds and gardens, Great Glen Crematorium provides a “a calm and tranquil setting to hold a dignified Funeral service”.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed urged all crematoriums in the UK to have Lord Shiva shrines and Hindu worship rooms.
