RADCLIFFE Swimming and Water Polo Club is appealing for information about its members who lost their lives in the First World War.

The club has been undertaking research about its history and has found that about 20 of its members died during the conflict between 1914 and 1918.

However, the only confirmed name they have is that of George Arthur Terrell, the club’s secretary, who was killed in action on July 1, 1916.

Radcliffe Swimming and Water Polo Club, which was founded in 1899, has asked residents whether they can help fill in the gaps.

Mark Evans, Radcliffe Swimming and Water Polo Club Vice Chairman, said: "Was your relative one of these men or do you have any knowledge or information about a club member who served in the Great War?

"We are sure there would have been a plaque or similar in their honour displayed at the old Victorian pool in Whittaker Street or the Town Hall in Radcliffe but can find no reference of it in the archives at Bury Library.

"If you are able to help, we would very much appreciate you getting in touch."
