In an aim to help reduce anxiety amongst women, a ladies gardening club is on the look-out for new green-fingered members.

Lancashire Women’s Gardening Club is offering women across the county the chance to grow flowers, herbs or vegetables for free.

The push for new members comes at a time when the charity wants to promote what it calls 'green exercise'.

Green exercise, such as gaining new knowledge on how to grow fresh food, how to support wildlife and how to improve local environment, can help reduce anxiety levels and improve mental wellbeing.

And it's all done by connecting people with other like-minded women to form stronger local networks.

Amber Wells from Lancashire Women, the leading charity for women and girls in Lancashire, said: "Our garden patch is a women’s space to sit alone or meet up.

"We are always on the lookout for pruners, weeders and waterers, whether you have five minutes or an hour to spare.

"It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced gardener or just starting out, our community garden is a great way to connect with others and improve the centre to create a beautiful green space.

"If you don’t have a garden to call your own, our community one means you can share the benefits of tending a green space, while helping others and the environment."

The next meeting is being held on March 5 from 10am – 12pm at the Lancashire Women's Accrington Centre.

All materials are provided and there is a mix of outdoor and indoor activities.

It is free to attend, accessible, and open to all women.
