THE Liberal Democrat who led the campaign to prevent Lancashire County Council from introducing on-street parking charges in Nelson and Colne has welcomed Thursday's 'climbdown'.
Now Pendle Rural ward's Cllr David Whipp has vowed to fight any move to bring them to other towns.
County council budget papers in November suggested Clitheroe, Whalley, Great Harwood, Burnley, Padiham, and Longridge could also get the new parking machines.
Cllr Whipp, said: “This proves that people power works. It was Colne that led the campaign and frightened the Conservative administration into this climb-down.
"It’s really great news but there are still a dozen other places in Lancashire that are going to get these things and I will continue to support the campaigners in those towns.”
County council leader Cllr Geoff Driver said: "The towns named in the budget papers were suggestions by the officers where schemes might be proposed."
