A road that has been partially closed since New Year's Day has been reopened.

Blackburn with Darwen Council Roads department announced on Wednesday morning that the road would be fully reopened by 2pm that day.

Posting on social media, a council spokesperson said: "We are just waiting for United Utilities to complete their works on the bridge and we will be ready to go.

"The traffic lights have just been switched back on and tested to ensure all is working as it should be."

The canal bridge on Green Lane in Blackburn was shut on January 1 after a car crashed into the wall.

Council bosses deemed the wall to be unsafe and closed the road between Gladstone Close and Rannoch Drive after a section of the bridge parapet was demolished.

Over the last few weeks, the Canal and River Trust has been on site to repair the canal bridge.

The spokesperson said: "Estimated reopen time is 2pm."
