AN exhibition of photographs of all 42 Church of England cathedrals has come to Blackburn.
The pictures are on a tour of the UK after the Victoria and Albert Museum in London acquired the historic album.
They are on display in in the south transept of Blackburn Cathedral for the whole month of February
In 2008, photographer Peter Marlow was commissioned by Royal Mail, on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the completion of St Paul’s Cathedral, to photograph six cathedrals.
The resulting images of Lichfield, Belfast, Gloucester, St David’s, Westminster, and St Magnus in Orkney were issued as a set of six commemorative stamps and a miniature sheet.
Once the commission was complete, Marlow was inspired to continue the project and in the following four years shot all 42 of the cathedrals of the Church of England.
Each cathedral was photographed at dawn using only natural light.
Now the 42 photograph have been brought together an exhibition entitled 'The English Cathedral' which is moving round the country's main churches.
Viewing the photographs at Blackburn Cathedral, one of the earliest venues on the tour, is free.
